Refrigerated build
The 5 ton chiller truck version
The same 5.2 m body with an insulated shell and a chiller unit instead of a dry box. It is the size most restaurant groups, caterers and mid-size food distributors settle on: bigger than a 3-ton chiller van, and still able to get down streets a 10-tonne truck cannot.
What a 5 ton chiller truck holds
Roughly 23 m³ of insulated body and 5,000 kg of payload. In practice that is a full multi-drop day for a restaurant supply round, or a single delivery to a central kitchen, without going back to reload.
Chilled or frozen
The unit runs from −18 °C for frozen through to +5 °C for produce and prepared food. It holds one setting for the whole run, so if the load is genuinely mixed, plan the frozen portion into insulated boxes rather than hoping the body will split.
Before you book
Set the temperature at booking and the insulated body is brought down to it in advance, so stock goes in cold and stays cold. Nobody on a car licence can drive it: use a heavy-licence holder from your own team, or our driver at AED 250 a day.
A dry 5-tonne starts at AED 500 a day. A refrigerated body costs more, and the quote depends on the temperature and how long you need it, so send the route and the dates; the refrigerated truck page compares every chilled size side by side.
Compared
One 5-tonne truck or two Ford Transits?
On paper the two options look almost identical. Where they differ is exactly where most jobs are decided.
Two Ford Transits cost the same AED 500 a day as one 5-tonne truck, and together they give the same space: two 11.5 m³ bodies against one of roughly 23 m³. The payload is not the same. Two Transits carry 2,800 kg between them; the truck carries 5,000 kg. For anything dense, from pallets of stock to a villa’s worth of appliances, the truck carries close to twice as much for the same daily rate.
The Transits win on people and places. Either van is legal on an ordinary UAE car licence, so two staff with car licences can run them without paying for a driver, while the truck needs a heavy vehicle licence or our driver at AED 250 a day. Two vans can also split between two addresses at the same time, and each fits under height barriers and into service lanes that a truck body cannot use.
The truck wins on length and on effort. Its 5.2 m floor carries long items that a 3.4 m Transit cannot, and one crew fills one vehicle instead of dividing everything across two. A single pickup and a single drop with heavy or long items belongs in the truck; two areas, tight access or a team holding only car licences belongs in the pair.
For chilled stock the Transit drops out altogether, because it is a dry van. There the comparison is the 5-tonne chiller truck against a pair of 3-ton chiller vans, which trade the same way on access but not on licences, since the 3-ton chiller also needs more than a car licence.

Villa moves
Moving a villa in one load
A 5-tonne usually takes a three or four-bedroom villa in a single trip. Whether it actually does depends on how the box is packed.
Start at the front of the body, against the headboard behind the cab, with the heaviest and squarest items: the fridge, the washing machine, wardrobes and boxed books. Build full-height tiers across the width so nothing has room to fall, then work back towards the doors. Mattresses and sofas stand on edge along the sides, and garden furniture, bicycles and anything irregular go in last, closest to the doors.
Protect the load as well as the furniture. Moving blankets between polished pieces, a strap across every couple of tiers and flat-packed bed frames tied together stop a hard stop on the way across the city from turning into damage.
Plan where the truck will stand at both villas. A driveway the truck can reverse onto saves an hour of carrying compared with parking in the street, and gated communities usually want the vehicle registered at the gate before it arrives. We rent the truck and can supply the driver; the people who carry the furniture are arranged separately, and booking them for the same window as the truck is what keeps the day on time.
Some villas are bigger than one load, and the signs are easy to count before booking: a storeroom packed to the ceiling, a garage full of tools and bicycles, outdoor furniture and planters, gym equipment or a piano. If several of those apply, the 10-tonne or a planned second trip is cheaper than discovering at six in the evening that a third of the house is still on the driveway.
A move between emirates changes the arithmetic. Dubai to Sharjah stays comfortably inside the 150 km daily allowance, while Dubai to Abu Dhabi passes it on the return alone, so send both addresses and we will price the whole move as one job.
Fit-outs
Shop and office fit-outs: working to the building’s rules
Materials for a fit-out rarely go through a front door. They go through a service dock, at a time the building chooses.
Malls and office towers control contractor deliveries through their service docks, usually outside trading hours and against a permit that the building or mall management issues to the fit-out contractor. The permit sets the date and the time window, and sometimes names the vehicle. Get the slot and the dock’s height limit from the contractor before booking the truck; a 5-tonne that cannot clear the dock entrance late at night has no easy alternative.
The 5.2 m floor suits fit-out materials. Plasterboard sheets of 1.2 × 2.4 m lie flat in two stacks end to end, and at just over 20 kg a standard sheet, a little more than two hundred sheets reach the payload. Timber and aluminium sections up to about 4.8 m long travel inside the box without hanging out of the doors.
Load in the order the site will use things, not the order the supplier hands them over. Partition and ceiling materials that go up first on site should come off first, so they belong near the doors, with finishing items at the front. On a job with several suppliers, one truck collecting from each in turn is usually cheaper than several deliveries competing for the same dock slot.
Daytime deliveries into office towers go up in the service lift, and the lift decides what you can order. A 2.4 m plasterboard sheet will not stand up in a small lift car, so check the car’s internal height and depth with building management before the materials are bought, not when they arrive at the dock.
5-tonne truck questions
Can I drive it on a normal car licence?
No. A 5-tonne truck needs a UAE heavy vehicle licence. Most customers take it with one of our drivers, which also saves arguing with a loading bay you have never reversed into.
Dry or refrigerated — can I choose?
Yes, we run both. Tell us which when you enquire, and for a chiller body tell us the temperature you need so it is pre-cooled before you load.
Is there a tail lift?
We cannot promise one on every truck. If you are loading pallets or heavy items without a forklift, tell us when you enquire and we will confirm what is available for your dates before you book.
Can it go to other emirates?
Yes — Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah are all normal for us. Give us the route when you enquire so the delivery charge is in your quote.
How many pallets does a 5-tonne truck take?
Eight, on either euro or industrial pallets, on the published 5.2 × 2.1 m floor. That allows about 625 kg for each pallet before the 5,000 kg payload is reached, so heavy pallets use up the weight before they use up the floor.
Is this the same as a 5 ton truck?
Yes. We write 5-tonne and most people search for a 5 ton truck, and both mean this vehicle: a 5.2 m box carrying 5,000 kg. The five tonnes describes what it can carry, not what the truck itself weighs.
Will a 5-tonne fit into a villa community or a tower loading bay?
Villa driveways and industrial yards usually take it without trouble. Many basement loading bays under towers and malls are too low for a truck body, so send the address and the height signed at the entrance, and we will check before you book.
