Coverage

Where we deliver in Abu Dhabi

We bring the van to you rather than making you collect it from Dubai. Give us the address and the collection time and we confirm whether it is a same-day or next-morning drop.

Mussafah and ICAD

The industrial core of the emirate, and where most cold stores, meat and dairy distributors and central kitchens actually sit. Most of our Abu Dhabi chiller work starts or ends here.

KIZAD and Khalifa Port

Freight and food import traffic moving inland. Sensible when a container is stripped at the port and the chilled portion has to move on the same day.

Abu Dhabi Island and the Corniche

Hotel and restaurant supply into the city itself, where a 3-tonne body still fits the service entrances that a truck cannot use.

Al Reem, Yas and Saadiyat

Residential and leisure districts with a lot of catering and grocery delivery, and loading windows that are strictly enforced.

Al Ain

A long run from the city and a genuine desert stretch in summer. Worth taking on a weekly rate for the mileage rather than a daily one.

Al Dhafra and the Western Region

Camps, sites and remote catering. Tell us the distance up front so we can price the mileage honestly instead of surprising you on return.

Receiving

What a hotel or central kitchen checks when the van arrives

On Abu Dhabi Island, Yas and Saadiyat most chilled deliveries end at a goods-receiving dock rather than a front door. The receiver there decides whether the load is accepted, so it helps to know what they look at.

The first check is the product, not the van. A receiver pushes a probe thermometer between packs or into a sample item and reads the core temperature. Chilled food above 5 °C and frozen food warmer than −18 °C is commonly refused on the spot, whatever the display on the refrigeration unit says, because the receiving log is the kitchen’s own record for ADAFSA inspectors. A van that held its set point all the way from Mussafah can still fail at this stage if the load sits on a trolley in the sun while the paperwork is checked.

The second check is the paperwork and the vehicle. Most receiving docks want a delivery note that lists every item, and many resorts ask for the vehicle plate and the driver’s name in advance so security can clear the van at the gate. If the plate changes on the day, tell the receiver before the driver arrives rather than at the barrier.

Timing is the third. Receiving docks are busiest in the early morning, and some stop taking deliveries during lunch service. A van booked into the dock’s window is unloaded in minutes. The same van arriving between two other suppliers waits in the queue, which does no harm with the doors shut and the unit running, and a great deal of harm with the doors open.

Heat

Summer routes in Abu Dhabi ask the most of the unit

Distances here are longer than in Dubai and much of the road runs through open desert. That changes how a chilled load should be planned between June and September.

A refrigeration unit loses capacity as the air around it gets hotter, because it has to push the heat it removes out into that air. On the E11 at midday in July the unit is working close to its limit before the doors have opened once. The practical answer is timing: load in the early morning, leave straight away, and put the longest leg of the day before the heat peaks rather than after the last drop.

The hardest moment for a chilled load is not the motorway but the parked van. A vehicle waiting on an unshaded apron in Mussafah, or outside a site compound in Al Dhafra, takes on heat through the roof and body the whole time it stands there. Park in shade wherever there is any, keep the waiting short, and keep the doors closed until the receiver is ready to take the stock.

Al Ain and the Western Region add a second risk: long stretches where a breakdown means a long wait. Fuel up before leaving the city, carry drinking water for the driver, and send us the route before the day so we know where the van is if you call. On routes that long, booking the van with a driver also settles who is driving an unfamiliar desert road on a heavy licence.

Distance

The mileage is the thing to get right

Abu Dhabi routes are longer than Dubai routes, and mileage is where a cheap-looking daily rate turns expensive. Approximate one-way distances, so you can work out what you actually need.

RouteApprox. one wayWhat we would suggest
Dubai to Abu Dhabi cityAbout 140 kmA single day trip already eats the 150 km allowance. Take a weekly rate if you are doing it more than twice.
Dubai to MussafahAbout 130 kmThe most common supply run we see. On a daily basis this belongs on a monthly contract.
Abu Dhabi city to Al AinAbout 160 kmA full day with a return leg. Ask us to quote it as a route rather than per day.
Within Abu Dhabi city and Mussafah15 to 40 kmComfortably inside the daily allowance, even with a multi-drop round.

Extra kilometres are charged at AED 0.80. If you are running Abu Dhabi daily, a monthly contract at AED 6,500 with 3,500 km included is almost always cheaper than paying the day rate plus overage.

Costing

What a daily Dubai to Mussafah run really costs

The Abu Dhabi job we see most often, worked through on the published rate card so you can check the arithmetic yourself.

On the rate card

Dubai to Mussafah is about 130 km each way, so one round trip covers roughly 260 km. The daily chiller van rate of AED 380 includes 150 km, which leaves 110 km over the allowance. At AED 0.80 a kilometre that adds AED 88, so each day costs about AED 468 before fuel, tolls and a driver.

Run it six days a week and a month holds around 26 working days. Paid day by day, that month costs about AED 12,170. On the monthly rate it costs AED 6,500 with 3,500 km included; the 26 round trips cover about 6,760 km, so roughly 3,260 km are charged as extra, which is AED 2,610, for a total of about AED 9,110. The monthly contract saves around AED 3,000 on the card alone, and a standing route is quoted on its own terms, so treat these figures as the ceiling rather than the price.

If the van goes out with our driver, add the driver charge: AED 250 for a working day of up to nine hours. The round trip itself is roughly three hours of driving, which leaves room inside that window for loading and several drops.

Darb, since May 2026

Salik ends at the Dubai border, and Abu Dhabi’s own toll system, Darb, takes over. Since 4 May 2026 a Darb gate at Ghantoot on the E11, close to the Dubai border, charges AED 4 per crossing at any hour of the day, as does a second new gate at Al Qurm on Sheikh Zayed Street. Leaving Dubai before dawn no longer avoids a toll on that road.

The four older gates on the bridges onto Abu Dhabi Island — Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Bridge, Al Maqtaa Bridge and Mussafah Bridge — still charge only at peak times: 7 to 9 am and 3 to 7 pm, Monday to Saturday, and nothing on Sundays or public holidays. A round that runs out of Mussafah onto the island can usually be timed around those windows. Darb is charged separately at cost, so every crossing appears on your invoice rather than being hidden in the rate.

Rates

Abu Dhabi chiller van rates

Rates are the same across the UAE. What changes is the mileage: the included 150 km a day covers a city route comfortably, and long inter-emirate running is better handled on a weekly or monthly contract than paid for per extra kilometre.

Paperwork

Food transport in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi regulates the transport of food separately from Dubai, and the permit that satisfies one authority is not automatically the one you need for the other.

Tell us what you are carrying

Food, pharmaceuticals and flowers are treated differently. We will confirm in writing whether the vehicle you want is permitted for your goods before you commit to it, rather than after.

Vehicles run UAE-wide

Our vans are registered and insured for use across the Emirates, so a Dubai-based vehicle working an Abu Dhabi route is not a problem in itself.

Temperature records

If your customer or an inspector wants logged data, ask before booking. We will tell you exactly what the unit on your van can produce instead of promising a report it cannot generate.

Abu Dhabi chiller van questions

Do you deliver the van to Abu Dhabi?

Yes. We deliver to Mussafah, ICAD, KIZAD, the island and the wider emirate. Send the address and the time you need it loaded, and we will confirm whether that is same-day or the following morning.

Is the rate higher than Dubai?

No. The rate card is the same across the UAE. The difference on Abu Dhabi work is mileage, not price, which is why longer routes usually belong on a weekly or monthly contract.

Can I use a Dubai-registered van in Abu Dhabi?

Yes. Our vehicles are registered and insured for use across the UAE. Tell us the route when you book so we can confirm the goods paperwork rather than only the vehicle paperwork.

What licence do I need for a 3-tonne chiller?

More than a standard car licence. A 3-tonne vehicle sits above the light category, which is why most Abu Dhabi customers take the van with one of our drivers.

Do you cover Al Ain and the Western Region?

Yes, but tell us the distance up front. Those routes run well past the included mileage and we would rather quote the route properly than hand you an overage bill at the end.

Can you run a daily Dubai to Abu Dhabi supply route?

That is one of the most common jobs we do. It runs as a monthly contract with a driver, priced on the route, because the daily rate plus extra kilometres is the expensive way to buy it.

Can I get a chiller van for rent in Abu Dhabi at short notice?

Usually yes, though Abu Dhabi is a delivery run from our Dubai yard rather than a local depot, so the earlier you tell us the better. Send the drop point and the temperature and we will confirm what is free on your dates.

Does a chiller van pay Darb tolls between Dubai and Abu Dhabi?

Yes. Since 4 May 2026 the Darb gate at Ghantoot on the E11 charges AED 4 per crossing around the clock, and the gates on the bridges onto Abu Dhabi Island charge AED 4 at peak times, Monday to Saturday. Tolls are charged separately, at cost.
